The Department of Telecommunications at MAJU, Karachi began in spring 2004 by admitting the first batch of M.S. Telecom & Networking students to the evening program. In view of the favorable response from students, we were encouraged to offer admissions for the B.S. Telecommunications in the morning program for fall 2004. We expect that our first batch of students qualifying for the B.S. Telecommunications degree will pass out in May 2008. M.S. Telecom and Networking students have been regularly passing out since the inception of the program upon completion of the course requirements and thesis.
We have established a high-class Electronics Laboratory with state-of-the-art electronicequipment, oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital counters, measurement instruments, bread boards and variety of electrical and electronic components. Our labs can accommodate a large number of students. This lab environment encourages students to design their own experiments and projects, and then examine and analyze their performance.
A separate Telecommunications Lab has been established to introduce to students the foundations of this current and ever-expanding field. This lab offers different types of trainers and a multitude of telecommunications modules to be used by students in an orderly, systematic and safe manner using scalable front panels. Students design experiments to obtain hands-on experience on DSP, Applications of DSP, a variety of modulation techniques and modern information and data transmission techniques employing both digital and analog format.
Moreover, realizing the importance and scope of advanced level telecommunications, Rs1100,000/= has been allocated to import equipment for establishing an Optical communications Lab, Satellite Communication Lab, Microwave Communications Lab, and Wireless Communications Lab. These laboratories are scheduled for completion by spring 2008.
