About Karachi


Karachi is the capital of the province of Sindh, and the largest city in Pakistan. Located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, north-west of the Indus River Delta, the mega city is the largest city in Pakistan, original capital and cultural, economical, philanthropic, educational and political hub, as well as the largest seaport of the country.

Its leading economic sectors include, largest industrial zone in Pakistan, finance, business services, transportation, media, television production, publishing, software production, medical research, education and tourism.

The metropolitan area along with its suburbs, comprises the world's second most populated city, spread over 3,530 square kilometers. The city credits its growth to the mixed populations of economic and political migrants from different national, provincial, linguistic and religious origins that have largely come to settle here permanently.

It is locally known as the City of Lights for its liveliness and the City of The Qaid, for being both the birth and death place of Qaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. He also made his home in Karachi after 1947. Karachi is dotted with many shopping areas, large and small, attracting large crowds of shoppers in the evenings. Saddar, Gulf Shopping Mall, Bahadurabad, Tariq Road, Zamzama, Zaib-un-nissa Street (Elphinestone Street) Hyderi and Waterpump (Anarkali Bazar) are the most famous shopping areas in the city.
