Program Objectives

Biosciences is an interdisciplinary approach that executes cutting edge study in a wide range of areas including biochemistry, bioinformatics, genetics, genomics, biotechnology, microbiology and environmental sciences. Department promotes excellence interdisciplinary biological research by encouraging independent and original work and training.

Career

BS in Biosciences graduates can pursue their careers in Biotechnology firms, Clinical Diagnostic Laboratories, Research organizations, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Pharmaceutical industries, teaching profession in Universities, Software houses involved in Bioinformatics computing, and other public and private sector organizations.

Eligibility

  • Higher Secondary School Certificate or equivalent with science securing at least 45% marks in aggregate.
  • MAJU Admission Test or NTS test.

Selection Criteria

  • MAJU Admission Test
  • Interview

Duration

This is a four year degree program comprising of 8 semesters with minimum of 130 semester credit hours (Cr. Hrs). There will be a Fall and a Spring semester in each year. The summer session will be utilized for internships or deficiency courses. The maximum duration to complete BS is 7 years.

Final Year Projects

A student may register final year project in the 7th semester of his/her degree program, or on the completion of 90 Cr. Hrs.

Internship

It is mandatory for every student to register in an 8 week summer internship program following their 6th semester or after the completion of 90 credit hours. A formal Evaluation is carried out and Pass/Fail grade is awarded to the student.

Bioscience is a collective term for life sciences. It is at the core of research and innovation that is curing disease, providing safe and ample food and water, and developing new sources of fuel.

In which areas can I search job opportunities after I have completed my degree?

As a student of biosciences you will learn about life in all its forms and the advances in biosciences that affect those lives in a positive manner.

What is current standing of Biosciences?

“Bioscience has allowed us to understand some of the most complex processes that govern life, be that at a molecular genetic level, or at the level of the whole organism and the ecosystem in which it survives,” e.g., Bioscientists have developed rapid and minimally invasive diagnostic tests and novel treatments based on their study of the intricacies of how diseases develop and the action of pharmaceutical drugs. Such developments have revolutionised medicine and contributed to the alleviation of suffering of countless individuals.”

Are there sufficient job opportunities in market where I would be hired with this degree?

Biosciences have a broad scientific concepts which lead them to a multitude of careers, from laboratory-based work, business, pharmaceuticals and beyond. Bioscience graduates can find themselves in roles in academic research, the pharmaceutical and diagnostic medicine industry, the healthcare sector, the food and environmental health sector, and local and central government.

I have a Pre-Engineering Background in my higher secondary schooling, can I get an admission in BS-Biosciences at MAJU?

YES! Students from Pre-engineering can pursue admission at MAJU Biosciences program. Moreover, their deficiencies in biology shall be taken care in form of deficiency courses specially designed to cater their concepts in biology.

How can we compete with job market which already has a load of MBAs, Pharm D. and other management cum science subjects?

A degree in biosciences can teach you skills that will help you stand out in an increasingly competitive job market and propel you to academic and professional success. You’ll already have strong research and presentation skills, as well as the ability to effectively collect and analyse data. As a biosciences student you will also pick up many highly transferable skills, including the ability to work well in a team, use your initiative and effectively manage your time – all of which are highly sought after skills in the workplace.

Are there financial aid options for students? I have good grades but can’t afford the fee.

YES! We have a clear policy that NO STUDENT GETS ADMISSION DENIAL ON GROUNDS OF FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS.

If you have 80% or above in HSE, you will be automatically eligible for 100% fee waiver. If you have 75-79% in HEC, you shall get 75% fee waiver. Moreover, we also have Academic performance based scholarships as well. As a student achieves good grades during his/her semester exams, then according to university policy, the student can get scholarships. Further details can be taken from student financial aid office and concerned committee.
