Dr. M. Kamran Azim

Professor, Dean (Faculty of Life Sciences), HOD (Biosciences)

Prof. Azim has more than 20 years of experience of teaching and research in Biochemistry and molecular biology. He teaches courses on Genomics, Bioinformatics, Protein Chemistry, Enzymology and Techniques in Molecular Biology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has supervised 10 Ph.D. and 10 M.Phil. students. Currently, Prof. Azim has 64 research publications with >100 cumulative impact factor. His field of research interest is Structure and Function of Proteins. Prof. Azim’s group is currently involved in several research projects related to (i) human genomics and human disease genomics, (ii) bacterial genomics, (iii) metagenomics, (iv) structural and functional characterization of honey proteins. He led the genome mapping project of first Pakistani individual (https://www.dawn.com/news/640711). Prof. Azim’s group utilize experimental methods (Protein Chemistry, Spectroscopy and Molecular Biology) as well as knowledge-based computational techniques (Bioinformatics and Molecular modeling) to answer questions regarding structure-function relationships in proteins. Prof. Azim’s group have studied structural biology and bioinformatics of proteases and their regulatory components with especial reference to the Proteosome; the intracellular protein degrading machinery. His group has discovered novel bioactivities of proteins and peptides present in natural honey obtained from different geographical regions of Pakistan.

+ Biography

Prof. Azim has more than 20 years of experience of teaching and research in Biochemistry and molecular biology. He teaches courses on Genomics, Bioinformatics, Protein Chemistry, Enzymology and Techniques in Molecular Biology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has supervised 10 Ph.D. and 10 M.Phil. students. Currently, Prof. Azim has 64 research publications with >100 cumulative impact factor. His field of research interest is Structure and Function of Proteins. Prof. Azim’s group is currently involved in several research projects related to (i) human genomics and human disease genomics, (ii) bacterial genomics, (iii) metagenomics, (iv) structural and functional characterization of honey proteins. He led the genome mapping project of first Pakistani individual (https://www.dawn.com/news/640711). Prof. Azim’s group utilize experimental methods (Protein Chemistry, Spectroscopy and Molecular Biology) as well as knowledge-based computational techniques (Bioinformatics and Molecular modeling) to answer questions regarding structure-function relationships in proteins. Prof. Azim’s group have studied structural biology and bioinformatics of proteases and their regulatory components with especial reference to the Proteosome; the intracellular protein degrading machinery. His group has discovered novel bioactivities of proteins and peptides present in natural honey obtained from different geographical regions of Pakistan.
